This years’ derby was held as a memorial to Michael Berezowsky who
died suddenly this June. Michael originated the Stormy Lake Rock
Derby 8 years ago and each year contributed hand made pine trophys.
A smaller crowd turned out for the 2005 derby however a total of 1,032 Rock Bass were counted and tossed into the hole. ![]() The big winners this year received one of Mike's trophies and a flashlight. The George Family (604) – most fish caught (group)
Gordon Pratt (267) – most fish caught (over 10 years)
Sean & Andrew Thompson (60) – most fish caught (10 years & under)
Sean Orchard & Matthew Hache (8 ½”) – largest fish caught
(over 10 years)
Jacob Ribble (9”) – largest fish caught (10 years & under)
David Fairbairn (3 ¾”) smallest fish caught
All participants selected two prizes supplied by the Stormy Lake road associations. All were entered in a draw for gift certificates that were generously donated by Outdoors Plus Bait & Tackle in Haliburton. ![]() Many thanks go to all who volunteered their time, effort and prizes. Pictured below are Ray & Bernie Thompson, Don Dillon and Bonnie Armstrong. Other contributors include Ed Curtis, Bruce Douglas, Jim George, Terry Tice and Michel Boileau). ![]() Again this year participants noticed more Perch, Sunfish and Small Mouth Bass. We need to keep this event going so the predatory Rock Bass are kept in check. With the absence of Mike Volunteers are required to stage next year's event. Mike's documentataion on how to run it is on the Stormy Lake Events page. Thank you to all who participated. Keep on catching those “red eyes”. |
